Presteigne St Andrews Under 18s romped to a 7-0 win over Leominster Minors at Llanandras Park as they produced one of their best performances of the season.
Nick Evans will take most of the plaudits as he netted four times, while he also had more than a hand – well, a head, in the first goal that is being credited to Connor Bird who bundled it home after Nick’s header from a free kick came back off the far post.
Callum Matthews also had a busy night – his determined run down the left set up Nick Evans for his first goal, while Callum then got on the scoresheet himself when his fierce drive proved too strong for the Leominster keeper who could only push it up into the air and then watch as it dropped behind him and into the net.
Jamie Blythe will doubtless be telling anyone who will listen about his goal for weeks to come – and, to be fair, well he might. He collected the ball just inside the Leominster half, advanced until he was about 30 yards out and then hit a great shot that dipped over the visiting keeper and under the bar.
Joe Prosser had one of his quietest nights of the season in the Presteigne goal but he maintained his concentration well as a long-range effort from Leominster two minutes from time saw Joe make a fine save when tipping the shot around the post.
Trevor and Adam would have to be very pleased with both result and the performance as the Under 18s played some lovely stuff, especially in the first half.
They are due to round off their HFA Floodlit Youth League programme next Monday night – 26 April – when they Hinton are scheduled to be at Llanandras Park for a 7.30pm kick off.
