Penparcau strengthened their position in the Spar Mid Wales League title race on Monday night when they won 3-1 at Aberystwyth University.

That win took ‘arky three points clear of Rhayader Town at the top, although Llanrhaeadr could still overhaul them were they to win their three games in hand.

Bow Street are also bang in the title race- they were 3-1 winners at Dolgellau on Tuesday 20 April and so went third.

In Tuesday night’s Mid Wales League (South) action it is a case of ‘as you were’ at both the top and the bottom of the table.

At the top, Rhosgoch Rangers march on after they were 5-1 home winners over Llandrindod Wells Colts, but Builth Wells did their best to keep up the pressure with a 4-2 victory at Talgarth Rovers.

Talgarth Town will soon be sick of the site of Hay St Marys Reserves – beaten 3-1 by them in the Sparey Cup semi-final on Sunday, they were then beaten 4-1 at Hay in a league match two days later. In the night’s other game, Rhayader Town Reserves came away from Penybont Athletic with a 2-0 win.

In addition to Presteigne’s game against Dyffryn Banw, there are four other matches in the Spar Mid Wales League on Wednesday 21 April., including a derby game at Hay St Marys where Rhayader Town will go in search of the win they need to keep up the pressure on Penparcau at the top.

There is another derby scheduled for Aberystwyth in which the students will host Aberystwyth Reserves, while two of the league’s struggling sides are also in action – Llanfyllin Town will host Llansantffraid Village, and Caersws Reserves head to Waterloo Rovers.
