Hay St Marys 0 v 3 Presteigne St Andrews
Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup first round
Presteigne were not to be denied and did take the lead in the 23rd minute – Shane Sutton found Nick Evans with a through ball and he beat the home team keeper with ease to give the visitors a lead they were to hold until half-time.
Sam Williams made it 2-0 on the hour-mark, although the locals were not too happy about the manner of the goal as they felt it had been offside. Sam collected the ball inside the Hay half and, while the linesman’s flag went up, he went on to round the goalkeeper and score from an acute angle.
While many of the home team’s supporters were distinctly unhappy, there were those (especially some stood near the Presteigne chairman) who felt that Sam had been onside and that the goal had been correctly given – who would be a referee?
Presteigne wrapped it up late on when Sam Williams was put through by Glen Tolley and netted his second of the night. It could have been even better as Luke Hicks had a ‘goal’ disallowed in the final minute when he was adjudged to have pushed a Hay defender.
Thanks to Alan Randell for the report – there will be a more detailed version on the first team page as soon as I have had the chance to speak to Tim – but well done to the first team squad and let’s hope they can do the same to Bow Street at Llanandras Park on Saturday afternoon (kick off 2.30pm)
