Builth Wells yesterday lifted the Mid Wales League (South) Cup when they beat Llandrindod Wells 3-0 in the final at Rhayader.

Builth will be hoping this proves to be the first part of a league and cup double as they are still locked in a two-way fight with Rhosgoch Rangers for the league title.

The opening goal of the final came about 10 minutes before the interval after Llandrindod Wells failed to clear a corner.

They scored twice more in a five-minute spell early in the second half to effectively kill off any chance of a Llandrindod comeback.

Llandrindod do have the not-inconsiderable consolation of having won the Emrys Morgan Cup, but Builth were good value for their win in the League Cup final.

Interesting to note that the final-day fixtures in the Mid Wales League (South) on Saturday 22 May include Rhosgoch Rangers v Builth Wells – could be some game…

Meanwhile, Presteigne Reserves could yet have a major bearing on the title race – it has been confirmed they will go to Rhosgoch Rangers on  Tuesday 18 May.
