CP Llanandras came close to producing their result of the season in the Mid Wales League (South) when they pushed Rhayader Town Reserves close before going down 2-1 at The Weirglodd.

Despite facing a strong Rhayader side that included a number of first-team players, CP Llanandras led 1-0 at half-time courtesy of a goal from James Watkins that came after around half an hour, although manager Andy Crowe admitted the home side had the bulk of possession.

‘Crowie’ felt the game turned soon after the break when CP Llanandras lost goalscorer Watkins with an ankle injury and then John Bright from the back with a similar problem.

Given they had travelled with only 13 players, CP Llanandras were always likely to be stretched from here on in and so it proved as Rhayader Town Reserves levelled following the injury to Watkins and then took the lead after Bright limped out of the action.

Despite the immediate post-match feelings of disappointment among the squad, Andy Crowe felt there were plenty of plus points to take from this performance.

“The lads were understandably disappointed at the final whistle but when they reflect on this I think they will be pleased by their showing against what was a strong Rhayader side,” he said.

“I have no problem with them putting a few first-teamers in their side – if we were in a similar position then we would probably do the same thing.

“Our lads did really well and we can take heart from our recent run – this was our first defeat in four games in which we have also kept two clean sheets,” he added.

There will be a more detailed match report up on the CP Llanandras page of the site at some stage on Wednesday 5 May.
