Presteigne St Andrews’ manager Tim Broome has informed the club’s committee of his intention to stand down from the post at the end of the season.
Tim says his decision is solely down to a change in his work arrangements and he feels he would not have enough time to dedicate to the job.
“I have recently been appointed as Football Development Officer for Central Wales and clearly this is going to involve a lot more travelling and antisocial hours while I will no longer be based in the Presteigne area,” he said.
“With training and midweek fixtures clearly it is important the manager is able to fully commit to the job and I don’t feel I am in a position to do this.
“I would like to place on record my thanks to club chairman Alan Randell, his committee and the players and my assistants for their unstinting support throughout the season,” he added.
While the original plan was to make the announcement following the final league game of the season on Friday 14 May, the club has instead opted to make it public now as it was clear speculation was mounting and so it was felt it was better to front up rather than let the rumour-mongers have a field day.
Presteigne chairman Alan Randell said the committee was disappointed by the news but fully appreciated the reasons behind the decision.
“Tim has done a tremendous job in his time with us as he assembled a quality squad largely from scratch only three weeks before the opening of the season,” he said.
“But we realise he is in a difficult position with his new job and appreciate the fact he was honest enough to tell us now rather than leave it until later in the summer.
“In his one season here he won both the Radnorshire Cup and Otway Cup and guided us to a top-half finish in the Spar Mid Wales League, so Tim will always be guaranteed a warm welcome at Llanandras Park,” he added.
