Presteigne Reserves went down 2-1 in their Thursday night Mid Wales League (South) match at Llandrindod Wells.

The home side went into the game knowing they had to win if they were to keep alive their hopes of winning the title and they certainly got off to a flying start.

Llan’dod were a goal up inside the first minute when, despite the best efforts of the Presteigne defence, the home side bundled the ball over the line – Presteigne’s manager Barry Williams admitted it was probably a foot over the line before his side hooked it away.

The Reserves were back on level terms in dramatic style when Danny Ives fired home from 30 yards, but Llandrindod regained the lead before half-time when Paul Bishop cut inside a couple of players before finding the net.

Presteigne raised their game after the break and – in the view of Barry – were unfortunate not to take something from the game.

“In the second half we were all over them and we certainly deserved to take a point from the game,” he said.

“It was an interesting night as we had to cope with the ‘Blue Army’ [Llandrindod’s noisy supporters club!] and also Welsh TV were there,” he added.

The Reserves will next be in action on Tuesday 18 May when they will head to Rhosgoch Rangers while they will then round off their league season on Saturday 22 May when they will take on Knighton Town at Llanandras Park.
