Presteigne go close in the first half againt Llanfyllin Town

Presteigne St Andrews rounded off their Spar Mid Wales League programme with a convincing 6-0 victory over struggling Llanfyllin Town in their Friday night meeting at Llanandras Park.

After a fairly even opening spell, the home side took control when Shane Sutton headed home a far-post free kick to put them ahead, while they then doubled their advantage when Joel Layton netted when he fired home from a near-post corner.

Llanfyllin must have known that were they to concede a third goal then it would be all over and so it proved as Presteigne scored twice more in rapid order after the break.

First an excellent Liam Jones far-post corner resulted in Max Powell stabbing home from close range while minutes later Sam Williams reacted quickest inside the area to beat the visiting keeper.

Nick Evans came off the bench to net the fifth, while Joey Price then put the icing on the cake when he scored Presteigne’s sixth goal as Llanfyllin’s wretched season ended with a heavy defeat.

To be fair to them, Llanfyllin played some neat stuff at times until they reached the final third but they lacked any real cutting edge and Ian Havard in the Presteigne goal was seldom troubled.

This defeat means the visitors are destined to finish bottom of the table and so they will be relegated for next season.
