Presteigne St Andrews’ 6-0 home win over bottom side Llanfyllin Town on Friday 14 May helped them finish in seventh place in the Spar Mid Wales League table.

The final round of matches took place across the weekend with no major issues still to be resolved as Penparcau had wrapped up the title some time ago, while Rhayader Town had also secured the runners-up spot and a chance of promotion to the Cymru Alliance – our congratulations to them both.

Presteigne were top-scorers in the final round of games, but there was no shortage of firepower elsewhere – not least at Llansantffraid Village who beat visiting Tywyn Bryncrug 5-1 to leapfrog them into eighth place in the table.

Two sides each netted four goals – Carno beat Llanrhaeadr 4-0 at home and so edged out Bow Street for third place, while Waterloo Rovers came away from Dolgellau with a 4-2 victory.

Dyffryn Banw and Hay St Marys were also weekend winners – Banw beat Aberystwyth University 3-0 while Hay beat Bow Street 3-1.

In the Mid Wales League (South) CP Llanandras arguably produced the result of the day when they were 4-1 winners at Knighton Town.

That win for CP Llanandras – combined with Penybont United’s 3-1 win at Radnor Valley – saw CP move up a couple of places in the table as they went above Radnor Valley and also Newbridge Reserves who didn’t play.

Elsewhere, on what was generally ‘derby day’ across the league, things went pretty much with the formbook, not least at leaders Builth Wells who beat Builth Wednesdays 4-2.

Llandrindod Wells buried Llan’dod Colts 7-0 to stay in touch while Rhayader Town Reserves were also 7-0 winners at home to bottom side St Harmon.

Talgarth Town had to work much harder as they saw off Talgarth Rovers 3-2 while the Friday night match saw Newcastle come away from Penybont Athletic with a 6-0 victory.
