Presteigne Reserves left it late but they came away from Rhosgoch Rangers with a 2-1 victory courtesy of a last-minute goal from Nigel Duggan.
This victory for Barry Williams’ side effectively marked the end of Rhosgoch’s title race as the home side would have known this was a ‘must win’ game if they were to keep up the pressure on Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells at the top of the table.
Presteigne had got off to a flying start after only two minutes when Tom Watkins’ deflected shot beat the home-team goalkeeper to put the Reserves in front.
But Rhosgoch were level on 15 minutes when they levelled the game with a goal that came from a corner.
Presteigne had the final say though when Mark Weiland’s ball in picked out Nigel Duggan who fired home to secure all three points.
Barry said this had been among the best performances of the season and everyone involved had played their part in what had been a fine win.
“We were excellent throughout and were really good value for the win,” he said.
“We were missing a host of players for a variety of reasons but everyone worked really hard and we played really well,” he added.
There will be a more detailed report up on the site at some stage on Wednesday 19 May but in the meantime well done to the Reserves on a fine win – here’s hoping they can round it off in style on Saturday 22 May when they will take on Knighton Town at Llanandras Park (kick off 2.30pm).
Rhosgoch’s overall demeanour would not have been greatly improved when they heard the news that in the night’s other games, Builth Wells beat Llandrindod Wells Colts 7-0 at the Lant field, while Llandrindod Wells were 5-1 victors in their match at Sennybridge.
