Mid Wales League (South) preview

This weekend sees the final major weekend of league action in the Mid Wales League (South) although there is one game scheduled for Monday 24 May, so Saturday won’t quite mark the end of the season.

While there will be no shortage of interest locally in events at Llanandras Park where Presteigne Reserves will try to round off their season in style by beating old rivals Knighton Town, the neutral fan could be forgiven for switching their attention elsewhere.

Rhosgoch Rangers saw their own title hopes go west in the week when Nigel Duggan’s late goal helped the Reserves rain pretty effectively on Rhos’ fireworks as Barry Williams’ side came away with a 2-1 victory.

While Rhos might be out of the race themselves, they do have a final-day home game against a Builth Wells side that will go into the fixture knowing a win would see them secure the title.

Were Builth to take the title then few surely could deny them their success as they have lost only one game this season – that was against Presteigne Reserves at Lant Field.

But any slip up at Rhosgoch would see Llandrindod Wells have a chance of taking the title, although their final fixture is not exactly a ‘gimme’ either – they head to fourth-placed Talgarth Town.

If Llan’dod win that one and the Reserves beat Knighton, then Barry’s boys would finish fourth in the table.

Elsewhere, Sennybridge will host Penybont Athletic in one of those games on which there is not a lot riding for either side while seventh-placed Newcastle will host Builth Wednesdays.

The final league match of the Mid Wales League (South) season will take place on Monday evening at The Broadway in which Llandrindod Wells Colts will take on Talgarth Rovers where the kick off will be at 6.45pm.
