After the disappointing 3-0 defeat at Rhayader, Presteigne went into the home match against Hay St Marys looking to get things back on track, but it wasn’t to be. The writing was on the wall from the first minute of the game when Hay took the lead courtesy of a header from a far-post corner.
Presteigne raised their game and got back on level terms when Sam Williams profited from a good run by Luke Boundford to calmly beat the Hay keeper for 1-1. This, though, was as good as it got. Hay led 2-1 at the interval and then doubled that advantage in the second half to run out deserved 4-1 victors on the night. This was a fine way for them to mark their debut in the Spar Mid Wales League, but was hardly what Tim Broome and his Presteigne side had been anticipating. Still, there were some bright points for the home side who enjoyed good spells in both halves of what was an entertaining game. With a number of key players missing through injury, it’s important Presteigne put this result firmly behind them and move on to Llanrhaeadr on Saturday.
