CP Llanandras missed out on their final chance to land a trophy this season when they were beaten 3-2 by Radnor Valley in the Les Dickerson Invitation Cup.
On a swelteringly hot afternoon manager Andy Crowe admitted the work rate on which his side relies wasn’t quite there and they paid the price as, despite a spirited late fightback, they had left themselves too much to do.
A goal down at half-time, CP Llanandas responded well at the start of the second period, but were twice caught on the break as Radnor Valley opened up a seemingly comfortable 3-0 lead.
But Mark Ammonds – who had hit the post towards the end of the first period – then pulled a goal back for ‘Crowie’s’ boys and when Steve Marsh netted CP’s second there was more than a hint of squeaky bum time in the Radnor camp.
But the home side held on for victory on a day when Andy Crowe felt his side had not quite been at its best.
“I’m a bit disappointed but Radnor adopted a long-ball tactic in the first half and that caught us out a bit as we didn’t deal with it very well,” he said.
“The fact it was a very hot day didn’t help as we were not on the pace while our shape was all wrong in the middle of the park.
“But even when we were 2-0 down I thought we were still in it – when they got their third we knew we then had a mountain to climb, but we still gave them a major fright.”
