Presteigne Reserves bowed out of the Penybont Cup at the semi-final stage when they lost out to Builth Wednesdays in a penalty shoot-out at the Racecourse.
Jack Bowen put Presteigne Reserves ahead but Builth Wednesdays hit back to level only for the Reserves to then again take the lead courtesy of Tom Watkins.
Back came Builth again to equalise and so it went to a shoot out that saw Builth Wednesdays prevail 4-3 – they will now face Penybont United in the final on Friday night after United beat Athletic 2-1 in the other semi-final on Monday night.
Reserves’ manager – or should that be player-manager after he made a cameo appearance as a substitute – Barry Williams felt it had probably been a game too far for his side.
“We looked really tired tonight and, while we were looking for a response after the Knighton game, we were still below our best,” he said.
“Builth hadn’t played for a while and to be fair to them they did look fresh,” he added.
A fifth-place finish in the league and two cup wins still represents a very decent season for the Reserves and no doubt they will celebrate this at the annual dinner and dance….
