Reserve-team manager Barry Williams will probably be breathing a sigh of relief that the season is now over although this has nothing to do with his side running out of steam in their last two matches.
It has emerged that the Penybont Cup semi-final exit on Tuesday night was the least of their concerns as two key players either aggravated existing injuries or picked up brand new ones.
Callum Matthews wasn’t risked from the start due to nagging concerns about an ankle problem and these concerns proved well founded as when he did go on he lasted all of a minute before the ankle gave out again.
This led to those present entering something of a time warp as Barry Williams rolled back the years when he came on as substitute.
It has since emerged this wasn’t the only injury they picked up on the night as Rob Williams was tackled in what proved to be the last kick off the game and had since been complaining of pain in his foot.
A couple of trips to Accident and Emergency have revealed (eventually) that he has broken three metatarsals in his right foot and so he will have to spend much of the summer recuperating.
Best wishes to both players for a speedy recovery and let’s hope they are not on those strong painkillers that will prevent them from having a drink or two at the annual dinner and dance.
Already, somewhere in the distance, I can hear the cries of: ‘No chance!’… or words to that effect…
