Barry’s thoughts on the first friendly

Presteigne St Andrews’ first-team manager Barry Williams says he was very satisfied with the team’s showing in the first pre-season friendly in which they were 4-2 winners at Leominster Town.

Barry says, while it is always dangerous to read too much into pre-season games, there was no doubt this was a decent work out against a strong Leominster side.

“We played the game in three 30-minute sessions to help out with all the changes due to substitutions,” he said.

“We took a squad of 17 so there was a fair bit of swapping around to ensure everyone got a run out.

“In addition to the four goals we scored, we had several other chances with two of the best falling to Spencer [Napolitano] who narrowly missed both but Trevor Gummer also pulled off a couple of good saves towards the end of the game.

“All in all this was a good result for us with Phil [Parker] knowing their players – he said it was a strong squad with at least five ex-Presteigne players in their side,” he added.

As things stand, there are no games scheduled for next week but it is hoped to arrange a game against Woofferton for one evening in the following week.

As soon as we have any further information on this or any other pre-season games it will be posted on the site.
