The Annual General Meeting of the Presteigne St Andrews Supporters Club was held recently in the Farmers Inn in Presteigne.
Despite suggestions in some quarters that the club was to voluntarily wind itself up, the decision was taken that it should continue.
The officers were re-elected en bloc – the President is David ‘Taffy’ Freake while Andy Crowe will continue as chairman. Tom Ammonds is to carry on as secretary with Karl Chapman keeping an eye on the books as Treasurer.
Tom Ammonds said consideration was given as to the best way forward and they opted to continue running the club as they felt there is still plenty that can be done to raise funds.
“We took the decision to make a £1,000 donation to the Football Club so this should help at what is always a difficult time of the year,” he said.
“Players and some supporters who have never been on the committee probably don’t realise that the registration and entry fees for various leagues and cups are due in the summer.
“These run into several hundred pounds and come at just the time when there is no football and so very little income,” he added.
Tom says the Supporters Club is planning on putting on further fundraising events in the coming year including possibly another Sportsman’s evening along the lines of the highly successful Mickey Thomas evening.
“We already have the darts day sorted for Sunday 1 August and hopefully this will raise a few quid,” he said.
“23 pairs are already entered for that and the maximum we can take is 24 so that is looking good.
“We all know fundraising is getting tougher but we will keep trying to come up with ideas although all suggestions are welcome,” he added.
