Presteigne St Andrews came off very much second best in the pre-season double-header against Lads Club at Llanandras Park on Saturday 7 August.
First-team manager Barry Williams had hinted it was always likely to be a tough afternoon as he was missing five players from the squad that had played against Ewyas Harold on Wednesday evening.
Tony Richards made a surprise return to a Presteigne shirt and he scored as Presteigne led 3-1 at the interval with one of the other goals coming courtesy of an own goal by the visitors.
But Max Powell and Spencer Napolitano were taken off due to their picking up knocks while Barry also ran the rule over a number of other players and the loss of the experience at the back led to Lads Club profiting as they ran out 5-3 winners.
The Reserves – presumably weakened as some of their number had to supplement the first-team squad – were also on the wrong end of a heavy defeat as they went down 7-2 to Lads Club Reserves in the second game of the day.
As yet, I have no details on scorers for the Reserves – or even if the margin of the defeats was as reported above as – despite ‘Pie’s’ best efforts – nobody at the club seemed too sure as to the precise scorelines. It would have been more productive to have tried plaiting fog than make that phone call….(!)
More details as and when I get them, but a reminder the first team has two more games this week – they are due to take on Clee Hill in a Ludlow Hospital Cup tie at Ludlow on Tuesday 10 August, and then we will host Bromyard Town on Thursday 12 August – both games are due to kick off at 7.30pm.
