Presteigne St Andrews rounded off their pre-season schedule with 2-2 draw against Rhosgoch Rangers in their friendly match at Llanandras Park on Thursday 12 August.
Presteigne boss Barry Williams felt this was just the kind of game his side had needed ahead of the league opener at Builth Wells on Wednesday 18 August.
“This was a really good work out for the lads,” he said. “We put in a decent performance against a useful Rhosgoch side.
“We knew they would be good having been in a battle with them towards the top of the Mid Wales League (South) last season,” he added.
Presteigne took the lead in dramatic style when Bobby Bird beat the visiting goalkeeper with a long-range chip – Barry estimated it was probably from all of 40 yards.
Rhosgoch were back on level terms before the interval but Presteigne went back in front in the second half when Bobby Bird fired home from a corner.
But Rhos were not to be denied – they hit back to tie the game at 2-2 when they scrambled home an equaliser in the last ten minutes.
The first team will now have six days to put the finishing touches to their preparations before the big kick off at Lant Field next Wednesday evening.
Presteigne Reserves will open their season at Talgarth Town Reserves on Saturday 14 August and it is hoped to have a match preview up on the site at some stage on Friday 13 August.
