Presteigne St Andrews’ manager Barry Williams felt his side could take confidence from its performance in the final pre-season friendly ahead of next Wednesday evening’s opening league match at Builth Wells.

Rhosgoch Rangers provided the opposition for the game at Llanandras Park on Thursday 12 August and it turned out to be a very watchable game.

“We started very well knocking the ball around well for the first 25 minutes, but then Rhos got going and game became much more even,” he said.

“We went 1-0 up and it was some goal – a Bobby Bird lob/chip over the goalie from about 40 yards – it was a very well-taken goal and at this point we deserved the lead.

“But Rhosgoch hit back to equalise with a cross from the right which ran between the keeper and back four – keeper Simon Hamer got a hand to it but the ball rebounded straight to their player who scored.

“In the second half the game developed into a good even battle with us taking the lead from a Ioan Hughed corner that was cleared out to edge of area for Johnny Bird to place in to the corner of the net.

“But back came Rhos to make it 2-2 in the last 10 minutes when a corner deceived everyone at the near post and was flicked in off a visiting player’s head.

“I think 2-2 was about the right result and it was just the type of game we needed for the start of the season.

“I would like to thank Rhosgoch for stepping in at late notice and wish them all the best for the coming season.”
