Presteigne Reserves will not look back on the first 90 minutes of their competitive season with any degree of fondness after Talgarth Town Reserves put seven goals past them as they eased to a 7-0 opening-day victory.

Details have not yet come to hand – not least because I was at the wedding of the chairman and the new Mrs chairman – but suffice to say it was clearly a very disappointing start to the campaign.

In a brief passing conversation – he was on his way into the bar as I was on my way out of it – ‘Crowie’ admitted the side had been well-beaten, but was of the view that the performance had not been as bad as the scoreline would suggest, but there will be a more detailed report up on the site on Monday 16 August.

Talgarth Town Reserves are many people’s tips to be right up there and challenging in the Mid Wales League (South) this season and this results appears to suggest they might not be far off the mark.

As for ‘Crowie’ and his Reserves they will have to dust themselves down and prepare for their first home league match of the season in which they will take on Knighton Victoria at Llanandras Park on Thursday 19 August when the kick off will be at 7.30pm.
