Trevor Gummer’s hopes of playing the Under 18s first warm-up match of the new season have gone west due to the heavy rain throughout the day.
A pitch inspection has confirmed what many people would have felt was inevitable and, despite it being the middle of August, it was match off due to a waterlogged pitch – the good ol’ British summer, don’t you just love it?
Clearly a reasonably early decision was needed as the opposition were due to be Malvern Rangers so we needed to let them know so as to prevent a wasted trip from Worcestershire.
With the game being a friendly, it would make sense to most people to call it off as there is little point in risking the pitch at this stage of the season – although, reading between the lines of the text I received, even if it had been a league match I suspect it would have been off anyway.
As soon as we hear of any other pre-season games for the Under 18s they will be posted on the site.
