Preview of the weekend action

free_kickThe Spar Mid Wales League is hosting the Groundhoppers weekend with matches across the four days of the Bank Holiday weekend, starting with a Friday-night fixture in the second division game at Abermule where Llanfair United were due to be the visitors.

There are three matches on Saturday, starting with the 12.30pm kick off at Llanfyllin Town where Kerry will be the visitors before Tregaron Turfs will take on Aberaeron (kick off 2.30pm).

An hour later, Four Crosses will take on Meifod in the final match of the day.

Sunday will see an early start at Rhosgoch Rangers where Talgarth Town will be the visitors when things are due to get underway at 11.30am.

The Welsh Cup means the first division will not be especially well represented across the weekend but Newbridge will be anticipating a large crowd as, not only will the Groundhoppers be in town, but they will also stage a derby game against Builth Wells at 3.30pm on Sunday 29 August.

The Sunday evening kick off will see the Groundhoppers making the short trip from the ‘bridge to Llandrindod Wells where Bont will be the visitors to The Broadways for a 6.30pm kick off.

On to Bank Holiday Monday, the Hoppers will be due in Carno bright an early for an 11.00am kick off in which the home side will take on Llanidloes Town.

Llanfyllin Town will play their second match of the weekend when they will head to Montgomery Town for a 2.15pm start, while the weekend will be rounded off at 5.15pm where Kerry will host Meifod – again, both sides will be playing their second matches of the weekend.

In the Mid Wales League (South), there was Friday-night action due at Lant Field in which Builth Wells Reserves were to host Newbridge Reserves.

There are three matches scheduled for Saturday 28 August in which the stand-out game is probably at the Weirglodd in which Rhayader Town Reserves will host Newcastle.   

Radnor Valley enjoyed a fine win over Talgarth Town Reserves in their last outing and they will be keen to build on that when they host Llandrindod Wells Reserves.

The other match at this level will be at Sennybridge who will host Penybont Athletic.
