Presteigne St Andrews went down 2-0 in their first home match of the Spar Mid Wales League season when they took on Newbridge at Llanandras Park.
hile there was no doubting the effort and commitment of the Presteigne side, manager Barry Williams would probably agree this game had again illustrated the step up in class many of his players are having to make this season.
This was by no means a world-beating Newbridge side, but they deservedly left Llanandras Park with the points after a goal in each half.
The visitors allowed themselves the luxury of a missed first-half penalty while they played the final quarter of the game with only 10 men after Danny Evans saw red following two late challenges but, despite this handicap, they were seldom troubled defensively other than when Presteigne mounted a late rally in an effort to get themselves back into the game.
There is a detailed match report on the first team page of the site while it is hoped to add in Barry’s thoughts on the game at some stage on Thursday 2 September.
A reminder that Andy Crowe’s Reserves will be in action at Llanandras Park tomorrow night (Thursday 2 September) when they will take on league newcomers Bronllys (kick off 7.30pm).
It is hoped to have a match preview of that game up on the site at some stage tomorrow, although ‘Crowie’ was still waiting on Barry’s team news for tonight before being able to finalise his squad for tomorrow evening.
