There are days when you just have to hold up your hands and admit you were totally coutclassed by the opposition and, as far as the first team was concerned, today was one such day.
Berriew looked every inch a Cymru Alliance squad as they took Presteigne apart to win 9-0 at Llanandras Park with their extra class and fitness shining through.
While there was no faulting the Presteigne players’ effort, this result clearly underlined the amount of work that still needs to be done but, speaking to manager Barry Williams after the game, he is well aware of this.
Berriew’s Will Thomas four times – according to their keeper, he did the same last week against Newbridge – while R Morris grabbed a hat-trick.
A full match report will appear on the first-team page either tomorrow or on Monday 13 September.
There was far better news emanating from the ‘bont where Presteigne Reserves made it four successive league wins with a 2-1 win over Penybont United.
‘Crowie’s’ boys effectively had the game won after the first 10 minutes in which Tom Gibbs put then ahead direct from a corner and then Adam Strangwood marked his debut with a goal.
Penybont had a second-half ‘goal’ ruled out for offside but they were awarded a penalty late in the match which was scored.
As ‘Crowie’ told me, it was then ‘all hands to the pumps’ for the final five minutes, but the Reserves held out for an excellent three points.
Again, a full match report will be posted on the Reserves page at some stage between now and Monday 13 September.
