Presteigne St Andrews are still searching for the result they need to turn around their Spar Mid wales League season after they were beaten 2-1 by Dolgellau at Llanandras Park.
Barry Williams’ side appeared to have that bit of luck that has eluded them for much of the season so far when they were awarded a penalty after only three minutes.
Danny Ives was ‘brought down’ for the spot kick, although even he reportedly felt it was harsh on the visiting defender. But, despite this, he picked himself up and put away the spot kick to give Presteigne the lead.
Club chairman Alan Randell tells me the team then played really well for an hour and was good value for its lead, but then – for some reason – they appeared to take their collective foot off the gas.
Dolgellau clearly sensed the chance was there to get back into the game and they took a couple of chances late in the game to leave Llanandras Park with all three points.
The Reserves rounded off what has been an extremely productive September by winning 4-1 at Sennybridge in their Mid Wales League (South) match.
Richie Wilding put them ahead after around 15 minutes when he carried the ball out of defence, played a neat one-two with Tom Gibbs and then buried his shot past the home-team keeper.
It was 2-0 before the break – Tom Gibbs reacted quickest following a goal-mouth scramble and forced the ball home from close range.
In the second half Alan Stocker’s shot was palmed away by the Sennybridge ‘keeper but Alan reacted the quickest and had the presence of mind to pull the ball back to Adam Crowe who made it 3-0 to the Reserves.
Adam then returned the compliment as Alan Stocker got on the end of his cross to make it 4-0 before Sennybridge punished some poor Presteigne defending late on for a consolation goal.
Full reports will appear on the site some time on Sunday 26 September.
