Llanrhaeadr have extended their lead at the top of the Spar League first division to four points after they were 3-0 winners at Carno.
Their nearest challengers – Berriew – could only manage a 2-2 draw in their away game at Dolgellau while third-placed Bow Street stay firmly in touch after they beat visiting Dyffryn Banw 3-2.
Newbridge remain in the pack – they completed a quickfire double over Tywyn Bryncrug with a 2-1 win on the coast and so the villagers are still in fourth in the table. Penparcau are fifth – they thumped visiting Builth Wells 6-2.
The day’s other game saw the seasonal debut for Aberystwyth University but it wasn’t to be a happy start for the students as they went down 3-1 at Waterloo Rovers. The College will have another chance to break their duck on Monday 11 October when they will head to Llanidloes Town.
The chant: ‘Champions by Christmas’ is often heard being sung somewhat tongue in cheek by supporters of clubs across the land, but Kerry fans would have more cause than most after their 2-1 win at Llandrindod Wells saw them move 10 points clear at the top of the second division table.
Abermule remain second, but they could only draw 0-0 at Aberaeron while Rhosgoch Rangers lost ground when they were surprisingly beaten 2-0 at Bont. Tregaron Turfs move above Rhos on goal difference after they drew 1-1 at home to Four Crosses.
At the bottom, it is proving a tough season for Meifod who remain bottom after they went down 0-7 at home to Llanfair United for whom the win was enough to see them climb to fifth in the table while Talgarth Town beat visiting Llanfyllin Town 2-1.
Not all the Mid Wales League (South) results are to hand as yet, although we do know of course that Presteigne Reserves were beaten 5-1 at Newcastle.
The ‘weekend’ actually started on Thursday evening when Hay St Marys thrashed Bronllys 9-0 in a league match while Llandrindod Wells Reserves beat Builth Wells on penalties in their Pip Samuel (Electrical) League Cup first-round tie after the match finished 2-2.
Rhayader Town Reserves are also through to the second round of the League Cup after they hammered Newbridge Reserves 9-2 at The Weirglodd.
The Knighton derby match between Town and Victoria went with the form book with Martin Hall’s side running out 6-0 winners while Sennybridge are still looking for their first point after they went down 3-1 at home to Penybont. The basement battle at Bronllys saw St Harmon record their first league win of the season as they came through 3-1.
