Aberystwyth Reserves continue to lead the way in the Spar Mid Wales League after their 1-0 Friday night win at Rhayader.
According to the latest league table on the BBC Wales website, Aber are now eight points clear of Tywyn Bryncrug who, of course, were held to a draw at Llanandras Park, although Tywyn have two games in hand.
Waterloo Rovers are something of a surprise package in third place. They maintained their unbeaten record with a 1-0 win at Aberystwyth University – the students remain rooted to the foot of the table after defeats in their opening two matches, but you get the feeling that once they get over Freshers’ Week they will get better (stereotypical view of students, I know, but why not?!).
Also towards the bottom, Newbridge – now being managed by former Presteigne boss Adriano Girolami – lost out narrowly 1-0 at Llanfyllin Town, while it was a red-letter day for Dyffryn Banw, who recorded their first league win at the tenth attempt. They did it in style, though – 7-1 victors at Caersws Reserves.
Penparcau, who host Presteigne St Andrews in the League Cup this coming Saturday, went down 1-0 at home to Llanrhaeadr, who are fourth in the table. Bow Street, who looked so good at Llanandras Park last week, crashed to a 3-1 home defeat against Newtown Reserves while Carno won a mid-table battle 3-2 at Dolgellau.
A number of the Mid Wales League (South) sides were involved in Emrys Morgan Cup action, but Rhosgoch Rangers took the chance to take over at the top of the league with a 3-0 win at Builth Wednesdays. They are two points clear of Llandrindod Wells, who were on League Cup duty in which they needed extra time to get past Newcastle – 4-2 the scoreline in that one. Lland’dod have two games in hand over Rhos.
At the foot of the table, St Harmon remain without a point, although they held Knighton Town to a 2-0 scoreline at home.
