Review of the weekend around the Leagues

presteignefc[1]Aberystwyth Reserves still lead the way in the Spar Mid Wales League although they were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Newtown Reserves.

This enabled Tywyn Bryncrug to close the gap on Aber to six points after they were 3-2 winners at Hay St Marys – Tywyn have two games in hand over the leaders.

Llanrhaeadr stay firmly in touch after a 1-0 home win over Dolgellau ensured they remain in third place, while Rhayader continue to snap at their heels after a 3-2 victory at Caersws Reserves.  Waterloo Rovers surprisingly dropped points as they were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Dyffryn Banw, although Banw are now unbeaten in three matches.

At the bottom of the table, Aberystwyth University picked up a point at home to Llanfyllin Town but Newbridge continue to find points hard to come by after a 4-3 home defeat by Bow Street.

Elsewhere, in a mid-table battle, Carno shaded it at home to Llansantfraidd Village, winning by a second-half penalty to nil.

In the Mid Wales League (South), Llandrindod Wells’ 3-0 win at CP Llanandras ensured they march on at the top of the table.  They are four points clear of Rhosgoch Rangers who didn’t play a league game as they were otherwise engaged in beating Presteigne Reserves 4-0 in the League Cup.

Talgarth Town are in third spot after a 7-2 away win at Builth Wednesdays.  They go above Hay St Marys Reserves who were held to a 1-1 draw at Talgarth Rovers.

In the League Cup, Penybont Athletic moved through to the next round courtesy of a 4-2 home win over Newbridge Reserves, while they will be joined there by Rhayader Reserves, who beat Knighton Town by the same scoreline.

Builth Wells went one better, winning 5-2 at Sennybridge, while Radnor Valley are also through – they beat visiting Penybont United 2-0.
