Preview of the weekend action around the leagues

Presteigne St Andrews FCThe Spar Mid Wales League first division title chase looks increasingly as though it is coming down to a two-horse race between current leaders Berriew and second-placed Llanrhaeadr.

Berriew will go into their home match against Tywyn Bryncrug with a three-point advantage, but Llanrhaeadr have three games in hand over the leaders and also have home advantage for their match against Llanidloes Town this weekend.

Third-placed Carno are a further eight points back so they will know they can ill afford to drop too many more points starting with their home match against defending champions Penparcau.

Llansantffraid Village and Newbridge are level on points with Carno and both head coastwards this weekend – Llansantffraid head to Aberystwyth University while Newbridge face a trip to Bow Street.

The day’s other first division matches see Presteigne St Andrews head to Dyffryn Banw while Dolgellau will entertain Waterloo Rovers.

In the second division Tregaron Turfs lead the way and they head to mid-table Abermule while second-placed Montgomery Town are also away from home – they face a Montgomeryshire derby at fifth-placed Four Crosses.

Kerry and Rhosgoch Rangers are also very much in the shake up and both have home games this weekend – Kerry will take on Bont while Llanfair United face the trip to Crow Lane for a game against Rhosgoch.

The day’s other games will see Aberaeron host Llandrindod Wells while Talgarth Town will face an away trip to Llanfyllin Town.

The Mid Wales League (South) leaders are presumably in Emrys Morgan Cup action as they don’t have a league game – in fact, of the top four clubs, only Knighton Town are in action – they will welcome Builth Wells Reserves to Bryn-y-Castell.

Presteigne Reserves will fancy their chances at home to third-bottom Sennybridge while the bottom two are also in action – Bronllys head to Penybont, while basement side St Harmon will be hoping for a better weekend than of late when they entertain Radnor Valley.  The Saints lost 8-0 at Builth Wells Reserves last weekend and have now shipped 93 goals in 16 league matches.

Hay St Marys will head to the Broadway to take on Llandrindod Wells Reserves while the day’s other fixture will see Newbridge Reserves with home advantage over Knighton Victoria when Newbridge will be looking for more of the same after last weekend’s 11-2 home success over Hay.
