Presteigne Reserves’ scheduled Mid Wales League (South) match against Sennybridge has been postponed following a Saturday-morning pitch inspection at Llanandras Park.
Heavy rain overnight meant the game was always likely to be in some doubt and it took only a cursory look at the pitch for the decision to be made to call off the game.
With club chairman Alan Randell on his way to Elland Road to watch some mob take on Norwich City, it was left to the ‘three wise men’ of groundsman Tracy Hammond, Clive Griffiths and Trevor Owens to make the call and Trevor admitted it had not been the toughest call of their lives.
“It was the usual area of the pitch that caused the problems – the corner down towards the clubhouse at the Lugg View end of the ground,” he said.
“There was standing water on that part of the pitch, while the goalmouth at that end was also pretty waterlogged.
“But the problems also affected other parts of the pitch with waterlogging in the centre circle as well.
“We had to make a relatively early call as Sennybridge had a fair way to come, while we couldn’t be sure we were not going to get any more rain later in the morning,” he added.
We have so far had no word from Dyffryn Banw, so are assuming the first team game will go ahead as planned.
