Presteigne St Andrews FC picked up their second league win of the season in the Spar Mid Wales League first division when they came away from Dyffryn Banw with a 2-1 victory.

Tom Watkins gave Presteigne the lead in the first half when he netted with a spectacular 30-yard angled drive – just the sort of boost the side would have been looking for.

Ioan Hughes then doubled the lead after the break as Presteigne bought themselves some vital breathing space.

Dyffryn Banw did get a goal back when they netted in the 90th minute and Presteigne were left to negotiate a nervy six minutes or so of added time before they were able to see out the victory.

It was during this added time that Danny Ives picked up his second yellow card of the game and so he had first use of the hot water, but Presteigne held on for a very welcome victory.

Manager Barry Williams was understandably both relieved and delighted with this victory as he felt it would give everyone connected with the squad a major boost.

“The lads worked really hard for this one and I am really pleased for them as they have stuck at it throughout the season,” he said.

“Danny’s sending-off was very harsh – the first booking was clearly a case of mistaken identity and so when the second one came he was always going to walk, but he can consider himself very unlucky to be sent off for that,” he added.

Well done to everyone connected with the squad – that might be only the second league victory of the season, but it does represent a league double over Dyffryn Banw and it also puts us back in touch with some of those sides towards the foot of the table.

The Reserves’ scheduled match against Sennybridge was called off as sections of the Llanandras Park pitch were waterlogged.
