Round up of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FCSpar Mid Wales League leaders Berriew suffered a surprise setback to their title hopes when they went down 2-1 at home to Tywyn Bryncrug, but they remain top of the pile as Llanrhaeadr failed to take advantage as they also lost 2-1 at home – in their case to Llanidloes Town.

Carno and Llansantffraid Village are in third and fourth and they took advantage of the top two club’s defeats – Carno beat visiting Penparcau 2-1 while the Villagers came away from Aberystwyth University with a 1-0 success.

Presteigne St Andrews’ 2-1 victory at Dyffryn Banw brought them back to within a point of second-bottom Builth Wells who didn’t play, but Builth have four games in hand.  Dyffryn Banw remain third from bottom while fourth-bottom Dolgellau scored three at home but still lost as they went down 4-3 against Waterloo Rovers.

Big winners of the day were Bow Street – they thumped visiting Newbridge 6-0 and are now one of three clubs on 26 league points, only three behind fifth-placed Newbridge.

In the second division Kerry were the only one of the top four clubs to miss out – they lost 3-0 at home to Bont and so drop a place to third.   Leaders Tregaron Turfs won 4-2 at Abermule, while second-placed Montgomery Town boosted their goal difference with a 8-2 win at Four Crosses.

Rhosgoch Rangers are up to third – they saw off Llanfair United 4-0 at Crow Lane while Llandrindod Wells are up to halfway after a 2-1 victory at Aberaeron.  That result worked in Talgarth Town’s favour as they picked up a point in a 2-2 draw at Llanfyllin Town and so moved above Aberaeron on goal difference and out of the bottom two.

In the Mid Wales League (South), Knighton Town are up to third in the table as a result of their 3-2 win over Builth Wells Reserves.

Only three clubs in the top half of the table played – Newbridge Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Knighton Victoria while Hay St Marys were beaten 4-2 at Llandrindod Wells Reserves.

It wasn’t a good day for Sennybridge – not only was their game at Llanandras Park called off because of a waterlogged pitch, but their two rivals at the foot of the table both picked up points.   Bronllys recorded their third draw of the campaign when they came away from Penybont with a 3-3 result but it was St Harmon who made most of the headlines.

In what has clearly been a tough season for the Swifts, they had only managed eight goals in 16 games before yesterday’s visit of Radnor Valley.   But they hit form in this one with a 5-3 home victory to move level on points with both Sennybridge and Bronllys.
