In the Spar Mid Wales League, it was a good day all round for Presteigne St Andrews as, in addition to their 2-0 win at Caersws Reserves, of the clubs below them, only Newbridge managed a three-point haul.
The top of the table clash went the way of Rhayader who came away from Tywyn Bryncrug with a 2-1 victory.
Bow Street, who looked so impressive when winning at Llanandras Park earlier in the season, underlined those credentials by winning 3-2 at Llanrhaeadr, while Llansantfraidd Village won the Friday night derby game at home to Llanfyllin Town by five goals to one, while Penparcau were 2-1 winners at home to Newtown Reserves.
The former Presteigne striker Chris Jones was the star turn for Newbridge as they produced the shock result of the day in winning 4-1 at Dyffryn Banw as ‘Joner’ reportedly scored a hat-trick.
The home side will grumble about two penalty shouts – even Newbridge boss Adriano Girolami felt they had a case – but ‘bridge will be delighted with the victory at a Banw side that was unbeaten in four going into the game.
Waterloo Rovers were too good for Dolgellau on the day, winning 3-1, while UWA are still looking for their first win of the season, although they will take heart from a 2-2 draw at home to Carno. The students will have another chance on Monday 26 October when they will head to Llansantfraidd Village.
In the Mid Wales League (South), the leaders Llandrindod Wells slipped to what was only their second defeat of the season when they went down 2-0 at home to Talgarth Rovers.
Among those clubs looking to take advantage were Presteigne Reserves – 4-0 winners at home to CP Llanandras – and Builth Wells, who hammered Newcastle 7-0. The Shropshire club reportedly had their goalkeeper sent off in the first half, but it was in the second period when Builth finally got the show on the road by scoring six after the break.
Talgarth Town underlined their own credentials with a thumping 11-0 home win over St Harmon, while Rhosgoch Rangers were also among the goals, coming away from Penybont United with a 6-0 victory – Rhos are now within a point of Llandrindod at the top with Presteigne Reserves in third.
Hay St Marys Reserves won the Friday night home game against Radnor Valley by three goals to one.
Knighton Town came away from Newbridge Reserves with a 3-2 success, while there were two 1-1 draws – at the Weirglodd, where Rhayader Town Reserves hosted Sennybridge, and also in the game between Penybont Athletic and Builth Wednesdays.
