CP Llanandras’ first home match in the Mid Wales League (South) ended in defeat, but they will take heart from the part they played in what was a largely entertaining game on the school field.
Nathan Rogers gave CP Llanandras a first-half lead only for the visitors to level before the break.
Despite a number of fine saves from Wally Weston in the home team goal during the second period, Newcastle claimed the three points when they reacted quickest to a free kick that was beaten out and an unmarked player scored from close range.
Manager Andy Crowe and his team can take plenty of plus points from a spirited performance as they prepare to move on to the visit of Sennybridge to Broadaxe on Saturday 5 September.
