Presteigne St Andrews will return to Spar Mid Wales league action this weekend with a trip to the league leaders Aberystwyth Town Reserves, but Tim Broome’s side will head west in good heart.
After threatening to run away with the league early on, Aber have hit a sticky patch of late and haven’t won in six league matches, including a run of three straight defeats – the latest of which was at home to the College on Monday night.
Conversely, Presteigne have picked up in recent weeks – after a goal-less draw against the College, they were 2-0 winners at Caersws Reserves before putting an end to Waterloo Rovers’ unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 victory at Llanandras Park..
Elsewhere a couple of games catch the eye this weekend – Penparcau’s home match with Hay St Marys has the look of being a potentially good match up, as does Tywyn Bryncrug’s trip to Carno.
The revitalised Aberystwyth University head to Dyffryn Banw, while Waterloo Rovers will try and get things back on track in their home game against Newtown Reserves.
Towards the foot of the table Newbridge will feel they definitely need to get something out of their home game with Dolgellau, while Llanfyllin Town host Bow Street. Caersws Reserves host third-placed Llansantfraidd Village.
Second-placed Rhayader seem to have something of an aversion to Saturday home league games – they will wait until Monday night to host Llanrhaeadr.
After the Emrys Morgan Cup action of last week, it is back to league action for the majority of clubs in the Mid Wales League (South) and it is a good chance for Presteigne Reserves to put pressure on the top sides as neither Llandrindod Wells nor Rhosgoch Rangers are due to play this weekend..
The Reserves will host Penybont United in a game that will double up as a Bucknell Cup tie at Llanandras Park. A win for Barry’s side would take them second and to within four points of the leaders, Llan’dod with a game in hand.
Builth Wells will fancy their chances of upping the pressure on the top sides when they will take on CP Llanandras on the John Beddoes School field – Builth have games in hand over all of the other leading sides.
Hay St Marys Reserves face a potentially tricky trip to Newcastle, while Rhayader Reserves will make the trip to Llandrindod Wells Colts.
At the foot of the table, St Harmon face their longest league trip of the season to Sennybridge, while Newbridge Reserves will head to Builth Wednesdays.
There is one outstanding Emrys Morgan Cup second-round tie that is due to be played on Saturday in which Radnor Valley will visit the Racecourse for a meeting with Penybont Athletic.
